After the request of the Government, the Parlament removed the voting for the 98% extra tax and the amendment of Constitution from its agenda on Monday.

In spite of the original plans of the Government, the voting has been postponed due to some changes which the Government wants to make. According to the announcement of Janos Lazar, floor leader of FIDESZ, the refinement would modify the jurisdiction of the Constitutional Court from total restriction on the budgetary and taxation regulations to a partial restriction. This means that the Court could examine the regulations however it would have right for annulment only if there is a threat against data protection or personal rights.

The amendment in the Constitution would clean the obstacles in front of the 98% extra tax and the transfer of private pension funds to the state budget.

Janos Lazar presented his proposal for the changes on the 98% extra tax on Monday. He announced that the new proposal suggests that the employees going on retirement would not be obliged to pay the extra tax. They would keep the 2 million HUF limit in case of premiums paid for leader in state owned or self-government owned organisations, however in case of employees, the limit would be increased to 3.5 million HUF. In spite of the original proposal, the tax would be valid not only for payments paid after 1 January 2010, but all payments paid from 2005 ex post facto. Thus the payments received by Fidesz leaders after the elections would not be affected.
